What is an appraisal?
A watch or jewellery appraisal is the process in which a certified professional carefully examines and assigns a monetary value to a watch or piece of jewellery. There are several types of appraisals for different purposes, and methods for assigning a final value depending on factors such as age or current condition. The most prevalent purpose for which appraisals are conducted is insurance, however other purposes include selling, estate planning, inheritance, advice prior to purchasing and more. Why do appraisals matter?
Appraisals are important because values of watches, gemstones and precious metals will vary greatly over time, which puts the owner or future owners at risk of sustaining substantial losses in the case of an unfortunate event. Whether it be damage, loss or theft, an appraisal would serve as a first line of protection.

What can you expect?
In the case you have your watches or jewellery appraised, you can expect to receive a document containing all relevant information about the item, accompanied by a monetary value. Most often, this value is known as the Retail Replacement Value, which is simply an indication of its value as a new piece.

Insurance
You'll need an appraisal to insure your valuables. Some policies offer worldwide coverage so you can travel with your items being fully secured. I'll be happy to recommend a list of trusted partners with whom I've worked with for over a decade. It is important that you can tailor your policy to suit your specific needs.
